Maryland State Tourney Notes

Notes on finals:
Capital High School has won the 2A final in six-year periods since 1984. A Falcon's win Saturday will continue that pattern for Coach Walter Fulton, who will retire after today's game.

Ian Tisdale of the Frederick News Post reports that Jermaine Thomas, Thomas Johnson's star player who's headed to La Salle, injured his hip Thursday but will be ready for tonight's 4A final versus Eleanor Roosevelt.
Wicomico, holding a 25 point lead after the half in the matchup with North Hagerstown, took 45 seconds before the Indians taking their first shot (missed). The Indians had been pushing the ball in the first half. North Hagerstown came with four points on their second half run. Did it matter? Hard to say since Wicomico's shots that were dropping, off good plays, stopped going through the net after the break.
From the Hagerstown Herald-Mail: South Hagerstown played without their top scorer, rebounder and assist man, senior point guard Domonique Richmond, who was suspended on Monday. Richmond was leading the Rebels with 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Richmond had been arrested on charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He signed a football national letter of intent with Maryland last month.
Referees kept two players off the court because the jersey wasn't tucked in.
When one school's cheerleaders took the floor during a quarter break, the opponent fans started to boo. The first school's fans voiced their support; looked like a toss-up until the cheerleaders concluded their moves by turning to the opposite side of the court as they seemed to display an oh yeah, bug off, etc. move to the booers.
Maryland classifies schools by attendance. In the regular season, area teams from different classes play in the same conferences and/or leagues. For instance, Baltimore City has two teams in the today's state finals: Dunbar in 1A versus Pocomoke and Douglass in 3A (larger schools) against Gwynn Park.
Baltimore City and Baltimore County are two different entities; the city is encompassed by the county.
