Maryland Forward Likes South Carolina

Could power forward Jared Gaither from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland play a different sport than basketball in college? It is likely that football coaches will take notice of his 6-foot-8, 280-pound frame on the football field, but basketball is still the sport of choice for this first year football player.
“I am not sure what I will play in college,” Gaither said. “Basketball is what I like. That’s what I have been playing so far. I’ve only played two games of football.”

Gaither already has the attention of many basketball coaches, in particular South Carolina’s coaching staff.
“They have offered me a scholarship, and they are the only school I have visited,” he said. “I like all the aspects of the school, the coaches, the players.”
Gaither also listed Providence, Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure’s, and Clemson as schools he is interested in.
As much as Gaither likes South Carolina, he is not ready to commit yet.
“It depends on the rest of my visits,” he said. “Me and my coaches will sit down and figure out who I should visit.”
Gaither currently has a 2.3 GPA and plans on retaking the SAT this fall.
