Marquette lands Virginia wing

Since being elevated to the head coaching position at Marquette, Buzz Williams has employed an aggressive and physical style on the floor. He's been just as aggressive in recruiting and that paid off Thursday when Jamal Ferguson gave Williams his first pledge from the class of 2012.
A 6-foot-3 shooting guard at Norfolk (Va.) Maury, Ferguson currently ranks as the #69 prospect in the 2012 Rivals150.

"He went there to midnight madness on an unofficial visit," said Maury assistant Jermaine Woods. "He liked the guys and He liked coach Buzz and the program. Aki Collins and coach Buzz did a good job of communicating with his mom and him and us and it just felt like family to him."
A long and wiry wing, Ferguson is already a high level athlete who can get to the rim via the dribble. However, his frame and the progression of his game suggest that his best days are still ahead of him.
"I actually think he'll be a better college player than a high school player," Woods told Rivals.com. "His body is built to put on weight. He's got wide shoulders, he's long and he's got some definition to him. I think he's going to be a great defender and they'll get his shot extended to three point range."
A four-star prospect who runs with the might Boo Williams Summer League program during the summer, Ferguson is glad to have his recruitment settled.
"He came out the AAAU season wanting to get it done," said Woods. "Marquette is kind of far for him so he had to get over that. But, when he looked at it, the distance was the only negative and everything else was right for him."
