Mario Chalmers Commits To Kansas

Mario Chalmers, the outstanding 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard from Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska, became the second player from the class of 2005 to give a commitment to Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks. The No. 8 ranked player on the Rivals150 list made it official during a press conference that took place inside the Bartlett High School gymnasium.
“I have known Coach Self since his days at Illinois, so that made the decision a lot easier,” Mario Chalmers said. “I just felt comfortable with Coach Self, the coaching staff and the other players. I really enjoyed my official visit with Micah Downs and C.J. Giles. I felt comfortable with those guys and look forward to playing with them in the future.

“I also know that I have a chance to step-in right away and play the point,” he added. “Aaron Miles is going to graduate next year, so the opportunity for me to start is definitely there. Arizona has a lot of talented guards coming back and they have some players coming in. Kansas was just the best fit for me, so that is why I have given them a commitment. I made the decision on Wednesday night, which happened to be my birthday. I plan to sign my letter of intent in November.”
Rivals.com ranks Chalmers as the No. 1 point guard in the class of 2005.
