March Madness power adds forward

Winthrop took advantage of a great post-season run and national exposure to shut the door for one of the top rising prospects in the Southeast on Thursday. Georgia big man Charles Corbin verbally committed to the mid-major powerhouse.
Corbin, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Griffin (Ga.) High School, didn't even need to make a trip to the South Carolina school to make his decision. That's where the national exposure came into play.

"I saw them play on television and just dealing with coach (Gregg) Marshall and (assistant) coach (Earl) Grant, I got to know the school really good," Corbin said. "I felt good about it. I didn't even need to go up there to see it.
"The way I looked at it, I'm going to be really busy with these all-star games, my senior trip, my prom, so why not get it over with now and just commit? It's a good thing for there."
Corbin played for one of the best coaches in recent Georgia history in Ferris Qualls and helped put Griffin into a serious run for the state title. He missed the first half of the season due a transfer rule and watched his team struggle with only two wins and double digit losses.
When Corbin joined the lineup, Griffin lost only three games with him in the lineup and turned the season around.
The opportunity to play right away as a freshman and the thought of another potential run in the NCAA tournament was tood good turn down, Corbin said.
"It's really good for me at Winthrop. If I work hard, I can play early and if I work really hard, we can play in the NCAA tournament," he said. "That's as good as it gets."
