Major Wingate Has Leader

Major Wingate, a 6-9, 245 pound power forward/center from Florence, S.C., said that he has a clear leader this summer: Alabama.
Wingate told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that Alabama has offered him a scholarship.

"I love the coaching staff and I have a good relationship with many of their players," he said. "I am very close with Assistant Coach Orlando Early."
RivalsHoops.com's number 35 player in the class of 2003 said he has also been offered by Maryland, Georgia and South Carolina. He said North Carolina has shown interest, but hasn't yet offered him a ride.
A bally-hooed prospect who made everyone's top five list in the Class of 2003 several years ago, Wingate never really developed according to unrealistic expectations. But if he plays within himself, rebounds, and stays around the basket, he can be an effective power player.
He's a decent passer for a big guy, but the more he strays away from the basket, the less effective a player he is.
Wingate averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks per game as a junior at Wilson H.S. in Florence. He told us he's not sure if he will return to Wilson this year or transfer to N. Gwinett H.S. in Beauford, Ga.
In the classroom, Wingate said he has a 3.3 GPA and scored an 1100 on the SAT.
Following the adidas ABCD Camp, Wingate will attend the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas and the Best of the Summer Tournament with the Beach Ball Select program.
We will keep you posted on Wingate during his West Coast swing, so stay tuned to this site for more information in the weeks to come.
