Mack sticks with final eight

THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016
Columbia (S.C.) Dreher wing Tevin Mack is one of the best pure scorers in the southeast in the 2015 class. All college basketball coaches are constantly looking for players that can light up the scoreboard, so it should come as no surprise that Mack had schools up and down the east coast and even schools in Big 12 country coming after him.

In early August, the four-star decided to trim his list down to eight schools. He kept Clemson, Georgia, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, VCU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest on his list. In the past couple weeks, he's started to nail down official visit dates as well as in-home visit dates for the schools recruiting him.
Mack will visit Georgia on Sept. 20, VCU on Sept. 27 and Clemson on Oct. 4.
"I'm probably going to set up one to South Carolina right after those. Oklahoma State is coming in for a home visit. I've been getting calls from Georgetown and Connecticut too and they said they want to come watch me work out."
Mack spent Aug. 30 in Athens visiting with the Georgia coaching staff and stayed to watch the Bulldogs football game. His relationship with the Bulldogs coaching staff, particularly head coach Mark Fox who coached his brother at Nevada, is a big part of the reason the Bulldogs are a serious player in his recruitment.
"They were like the first high-major school to offer me a couple years ago, so they showed me the most love first. I think I know them the best out of all the coaches. I talk to Coach Fox a lot. They tell me they have a good history of developing wings like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and a guy named Kirk Snyder that played in the league and played with my brother at Nevada."
VCU head coach Shaka Smart was a regular at Mack's games this summer with the Carolina Wolves. The biggest reason for the Rams still being under serious consideration is simple.
"They win. People don't really know, but they win a lot of games. They play hard. They have a great playing style. Shaka Smart is a great coach. They got on me like two years ago too. I've been up there twice now. I like their campus. It's different than Georgia and Clemson because it's more of a city campus."
Clemson, like Georgia and VCU, has been recruiting Mack for a couple years now.
"They have been on me since I was going into 10th grade. I went to their elite camp and they've been watching a lot since then and watched me grow as a player. They play in the ACC and that's like the best basketball conference, so you get a lot of exposure."
Mack also speaks highly of the South Carolina program and says there is a big misconception about publicly about the man in charge.
"I actually like Frank Martin. People try to make it seem like he's not a good guy, but he is a good guy. They got nice facilities. I'm pretty familiar with the place. I've been there a lot since it's really just right up the street."
Look for Mack to make a decision at some point after he starts taking official visits and he plans to sign during the early signing period in November. He's got a pretty good idea of what he's looking for in a school.
"I want to go somewhere I can play early and make an impact. I want to earn my spot. I want to play somewhere that gets TV games and exposure and the best competition. The most important thing is that I want to make sure the coach recruiting me is going to be there all four years."
