Luster picks up high-major offer

Three-star 2007 point guard prospect Jay Dee Luster has led his Hoover High School team from San Diego, Calif., to a 12-2 record. More than his strong stat line, it is the intangibles of Luster that are so valuable to his team. Coming into the season with some mid-major offers, Luster, 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, now has a high-major offer according to his high school coach Ollie Goulston.
"Washington State, New Mexico, Creighton and UTEP have offered," said Coach Goulston. "Arizona State and Florida have been into see him, and Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have expressed interest. He is still wide open and primarily focused on getting better right now."

Luster, who is averaging 22 points, 9.5 assists and an impressive 6.7 steals per game, draws high praise from Coach Goulston for his leadership abilities.
"Jay Dee is playing great for us this year," said Goulston. "He's a great leader and his intangibles are off the chart.
"He's shooting the ball very well and also doing a nice job of letting the game come to him."
As a catalyst type player, Goulston feels that as good as Luster is on the high school level, he will be even better in college when he has better players around him to feed the ball.
"He does need to work on being more consistent with his jump shot, and sometimes he does have a tendency to try to do too much," said Goulston. "Most importantly, though, is that he is a great kid and is in the gym at six in the morning everyday. I really think he will be better in college than he is in high school."
