It came as no surprise that more division one programs were interested in John Lucky, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound combo guard from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. He had made his reputation over the past year with solid play as a junior and also playing for Wayne Simone's Connecticut Select AAU program.
However, Lucky surprised some by making a decision this early in his recruiting process. And Rhode Island landed themselves one fine player. Lucky is rated in the Rivals150.

Lucky announced this commitment yesterday. He is currently competing at the ABCD camp in Teaneck, New Jersey. Lucky is not an exceptional athlete, nor does he possess blow-by-you type quickness, but he is slippery off the dribble and showed an ability to get his shot off.
John previously stated that Virginia Tech, Clemson, Rhode Island, St. John's, and St. Joseph's had expressed interest in him. Rhode Island was the school that first extended a scholarship offer. He had already taken an unofficial visit to Rhode Island. Lucky averaged 17.8 points and around eight rebounds and six assists this past season at Sacred Heart. He carries around a 2.8 GPA in the classroom.
