Lucky Likes The Big East

Jon Lucky, a 6-4, 195 pound rising junior point guard from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, CT, impressed the college coaches who saw him play at last week's Triple S Harley Davidson Charlie Weber Invitational at West Virginia University.
"I like the Big East," Lucky said. "Right now, though it's early, I'm looking at UConn, Seton Hall and Syracuse." Lucky helped the Connecticut Select to the semifinals of the American Division bracket of the event.

Lucky said he averaged 13 points last season and has a B average. Asked what he would consider when he gets ready to choose a college, Lucky said, "I'll be looking at the point guard situation at the school. While I don't necessarily need to step right in to a starting role, I will look for a situation where there will be reasonable playing time for me."
The Select are coached by Wayne Simone, one of the better people in the business. Wayne was helping out Charlie Weber, as usual, with this event. You might think that would get him the prime playing situation during pool play. May be they'd play at the 7-court Recreation Center; or perhaps the Coliseum main court. Nope, his team played as often at one of the non-air conditioned high school venues.
Then, when it came time to play at the Coliseum in the semis, the team bus broke down and the players, or more accurately about half of the team, showed up just a few minutes before the scheduled tip-off. The Connecticut squad lost to Virginia's East Coast Eagles as the Select were unable to hold onto a 10-point lead. But neither the coach nor any of the players talked about 'bad luck.' They were discussing how they should have played better and won the game. Lucky had 13 points in the loss, including one three-pointer and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Hopefully, Wayne's luck is better in Las Vegas at this week's Big Time Tournament.
