Lowrys Situation Changes

There's a teacher's strike at Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia. And this adds now a confusing twist to the recruiting process of point guard Kyle Lowry, an energetic, 5-foot-11, McDonald's All-American candidate from the class of 2004.
Lowry is supposed to visit Syracuse on September 19th and Xavier on September 26th. In addition, Pittsburgh and Connecticut have been working hard to also schedule trips with Lowry, who was supposed to have started school this past week. Lowry did go to school today, according to his family. "But we aren't sure what this means," said Kyle's mom. "We don't even know whether he will be going to school on Monday. We have to watch the news like everyone else."

Connecticut and Pittsburgh were possibly looking into having Lowry in over the next couple of weeks. But can they legally bring Lowry in if school isn't in session?
NCAA rules state that a recruit in his senior season may not begin official visits until his school year has begun. Technically, Lowry did start school today.
Behind the scenes, college coaches are trying to get a clarification from the NCAA regarding this unusual situation. It's rare that this type of situation has developed.
Lowry just waits for an answer. He currently lists Syracuse, Connecticut, Xavier, and Pittsburgh as his top schools. The Kansas Jayhawks, once seriously involved, have backed away and appear not willing to make a run anymore.
