Lowenthal headed to paradise

As the nation's top high school players invade San Diego for the McDonald's All-American game, one of the city's top prospects is leaving the Southern California town. Local star Todd Lowenthal has made his college decision and he is going as West as he can possibly go.
Lowenthal verbally committed to Hawaii on Sunday night. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard from Powey High School picked the Western Athletic Conference school just two weeks removed from making an official visit.

"It was a great trip," Lowenthal said. "I feel like I can come in and compete for a starting job right away. It's an up and coming program. They are returning a lot of their players and I just really liked the staff they have in place."
The one-time San Diego commitment also fielded interest from St. John's, Pacific, Tulsa, Stanford and Idaho.
With the success of so many mid-major teams in the post-season, Lowenthal said he is looking forward to the opportunity of helping Riley Wallace's program return to the NCAA tournament.
"Hopefully we can go far in the NCAA's. We have a great program there and it's definitely on the rise," Lowenthal said.
Lowenthal will sign his National Letter of Intent in April with Hawaii.
