Lowe Lists Top Five

Mt. Vernon (N.Y.) High School point guard Chris Lowe has been busy visiting schools over the last couple of weeks. The 6-foot, 155-pound rising senior made a trip to St. John’s and he’ll be on the campus of Rhode Island on Wednesday. With the busy July month ahead, Lowe wants to take in as much as possible before showcasing his skills to more coaches.
Lowe, who plays for the New York Panthers AAU program, played well at the Tournament of Champions in May and since then, he’s been entertaining interest from several programs across the country.

“I’ve had a lot of interest so far,” Lowe said. “Rhode Island, St. John’s, UNLV, Oregon State and Arizona State are my top five right now.”
The charismatic floor general is getting on the road and seeing schools unofficially before his calendar fills with tournaments and camps in July. Lowe made a quick trip to a school close to home.
“I just visited St. John’s last weekend and I was really impressed,” Lowe said. “I’ve been there before numerous times but I have never seen the dorms or the academic side of things. I really liked it a lot. (Head coach Norm) Roberts is a straight up, honest man. He’s a good family man and I respect that.”
With the understanding of what to look for on a visit, he’ll take that knowledge to an Atlantic-10 program.
“(On Wednesday), I’m going to Rhode Island,” Lowe said. “I’ll be looking at their academics, the atmosphere of the school, the popularity of the team, whether or not they have my major (computer applications) and if I’m going to play right away or not.”
Lowe is a lightning-quick guard with solid handles. He brings a New York flair to the game with an occasional no-look pass and plays in-your-face defense. He’ll need to get stronger in order to compete at a high level, but Lowe said he’s ready for the challenge.
“I don’t have any offers right now. Coaches have told me that they will offer me once they see more of me. I just need to play my best in July,” he said. “I know St. John’s is getting close offering me and I’m putting up there on the top. They are real big on my list.”
Lowe said he’s open to more schools and he’ll play at several events, including the ABCD camp, the Big Time in Las Vegas and Reebok events in West Virginia and Los Angeles. Lowe said he’d like to see schools from all over the country during the summer and a decision could be coming before the regular season.
“By the third week of September, I want to make a decision,” he said.
