Lomax dishes on recent visits

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- In a back-and-forth contest between his Memphis East High squad and Montverde last Saturday, three-star prospect Alex Lomax showcased the type of intellect, floor setting abilities, and defensive buy-in that makes him such a valuable commodity within the recruiting world.

With less than 10 seconds remaining in a tie ballgame, Lomax made the right pass off of a hard drive that led to the game-winning dunk as time expired.

Following the game, Lomax discussed the victory and his mindset on the floor.

“It’s just fun. Coming out and it comes down to the final seconds of the game knowing you have to execute. That’s fun,” he said. “It comes from experience and practice. Nobody has a perfect game but it is all about keeping your head up and staying positive, keeping the team first and everything will work out from there."

Lomax has seen interest rise considerably recently, with Memphis, Ole Miss, Cal, Florida and UMass extending offers.

A 6-foot guard that already boasts a college-ready body thanks to his strong, compact physique, Lomax entered his junior summer with zero scholarship offers to date but announced himself onto the national scene with his steady demeanor and passing skills against heavy ball pressure.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Lomax has seen a few programs ramp up their attention with him.

“I like all the schools that I got. It wouldn’t hurt if I got more, though,” he said before noting on a few programs that stand out. “Memphis, Florida, Cal, Arkansas, UMass and Ole Miss; they all have offered me except Arkansas.”

In the last two weeks, Lomax has made it down to Memphis and Ole Miss for unofficial visits.

Memphis: “I am there every time Memphis has a game just to support those guys. It is my hometown so they show me a lot of love. I get to spend the most time with those guys since they are right down the road. Everybody on the team wants me to come. They all make me feel like I am at home and a part of the family.”

Ole Miss: "They treat me like family, too, everybody on the team and the coaches. They love me. I like Ole Miss. They put the team first.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Lomax's recruitment is far from complete, and he hopes to visit Cal and Florida following his high school season. While a handful of schools stand out, look for the Memphis native to remain patient throughout the process and find the right mixture of academics and basketball at his next landing spot.

RIVALS' REACTION

Lomax is a throwback at the point guard position. While that spot on the floor has recently trended toward a score-first focus, the Rivals150 junior would rather make the pass that leads to the easy basket instead of attempting to find his own shot first. Lomax's stock has steadily improved, though it does look like the hometown Memphis basketball program has zeroed in on him as a class of 2018 priority recruit.
