Lewis Down to Two Academic Powers

Cameron Lewis, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound center from Silverspring, Md., who is playing a fifth year Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, is getting closer to a college decision. The academically strong prospect has narrowed his choices down to two Ivy League schools and he’s looking at every possible pro and con for each program.
Lewis unofficially visited Georgetown before moving north to New Hampshire for school. He officially visited Penn (Oct. 1) and Columbia (Oct. 8) as well as flirting with an official visit to Stanford. Indiana came calling for the class of 2004 and Clemson was actively pursuing Lewis, too.

“Things are starting to narrow down and I should be making a decision soon,” he said. “It’s basically down to Penn and Columbia. The pros are very similar with both schools. I know I’ll have lots of playing time early and both have great head coaches. The players are cool and of course each school has a legacy as one of the top academic schools in the country.”
Even with a possible decision, Lewis said he probably wouldn’t sign in November. He would remain committed to the school but he said he wants to see more of the program and hopes the school would do the same with him.
“I want find a place where they can develop me because I’ve made a lot of progress this fall so I kind of want teams to re-evaluate me and see where I can play and how much I can play,” Lewis said. “Plus, I want to watch their teams so I can evaluate them, too. I think it’s fair to both.”
With offers from some high-majors and with the real possibility of signing late, Lewis said he will hold strong to his decision to play for either Penn or Columbia.
“Academics are very, very important,” Lewis said. “There aren’t that many places that I would look at right now because I’ve been in contact with each school that I feel like I could be challenged in both areas, school and basketball. I’ve looked at every real option. I want to start as a freshman and make an impact, too.”
