Lewis Could Commit on Visit to A-10 School
Alvin Lewis, a 6-foot-0, 185-pound lead guard from Madison Park High School in Boston, Massachusetts, will take an official visit to George Washington this upcoming weekend, and could be close to giving the school a verbal commitment, Rivalshoops.com has learned.
Lewis, who competed with the Metro Boston-Lena Park AAU program this summer, and boosted his stock considerably at the AAU Nationals in Orlando in July, was previously being recruited by Florida State. While Florida State had an in-home visit with Lewis and had expressed serious interest, they are no longer in contention after getting a commitment from guard Isiah Swann. Others who had expressed interest in Lewis included Maine, Western Kentucky, and St. Bonaventure.
Lewis did not have much of a reputation outside of the Boston area entering the summer, but helped himself with his play for Metro Boston, somewhat of a hidden gem on the AAU circuit in the Northeast. Recent alums of Mo Vasquez' program include Providence freshman Dwight Brewington and William & Mary freshman Corey Cofield. They have another high major player waiting in the wings in 6-foot-8 wing forward Kendric Price, a member of the class of 2005 who is being monitored by Wake Forest and Connecticut, among others, early on.
If all goes well on Lewis's trip to George Washington, which will take place after team practice sessions start, it is likely he will pledge with Karl Hobbs' program.
Lewis still has some work to do in the classroom, but should be on target to qualify. He has already gained a qualifying SAT score, but will take the test again in November.
