Leon Powe Update

Leon Powe, a 6-9, 232-pound forward from Oakland Tech in California, has had a great year as a junior. He is one of the top ten players in the class of 2003. Powe was one of the players that stood out to Rivalshoops.com this past summer when we watched him.
Mike Sullivan and Russ Blake both had a chance to watch him display his skills during the summer AAU sessions. Last year as a sophomore Powe averaged 25 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks. This season Powe is averaging 29 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, two steal and three blocks per game.

Powe is a very active player inside and makes an impact on both ends of the court. Powe showed some of that impact last night at the City of Palms tournament in Fort Myers, Florida. He led the City of Palms tourney in scoring and rebounding.
Powe has a short list -- Duke, Kentucky, California, Louisville, Florida, Kansas, and North Carolina, according to his AAU coach, Calvin Andrews.
A player of his size will likely get a serious look by NBA scouts down the road. Powe previously told rivalshoops.com that the school that has the lead is Duke since he likes the Blue Devils the best. This interview was conducted at the City of Palms tournament.
Presently, Powe has no unofficial visits scheduled. But remember, juniors can begin taking official visits in April if they have taken the PSAT.
