Leigh Moglia, Tim Doyle Spark St. Dominic Win

OYSTER BAY, NEW YORK -- Leigh Moglia scored 15 of his 16 points in the second half and St. John's bound recruit Tim Doyle dropped in 24 points to lead St. Dominic past St. Mary's, 70-67, in overtime.
Moglia's three-pointer to start the overtime session gave St. Dominic the lead, 66-63. Brian Houlihan added two free throws with two minutes left in the overtime to make it 68-63. After Tim Wall drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to two points, Mamadou Diakite hit one of two free throws to make it a 68-67 game with 27 seconds left.

Doyle then hit two clutch free throws with 22 seconds left to give St. Dominic a three-point advantage. St. Mary's could not convert a couple of three-point chances. St. Dominic rebounded the ball and Moglia was fouled. But he missed the first of a one and one. St. Mary's retrieved the missed free throw and called timeout. However, Diakite's long range three-pointer bounced off the rime and St. Dominic had its win.
"Leigh had a great second half," St. Dominic head coach Rob Pavinelli told us. "He has had spurts for us this season. He usually shares the point guard position with Thomas Paul. But tonight he was playing so well I had to play him more."
A big first half by Doyle set the tone for St. Dominic. Doyle scored 16 points in the first half and was very aggressive in taking his shot. "In the second half St. Mary's did a good job on him the way we did a good job on Mamadou (Diakite)," Pavinelli said. "They were denying Tim the ball in the second half but we had other guys like Leigh pick it up."
Diakite finished with 16 points while Keith Tilley was terrific all night with 14 points, many of them on second effort chances. Tim Wall also had 13 points for St. Mary's.
Ryan Leach and Alex Patsos had 12 points a piece for the winners (See Alex Patsos story).
