Landy Thompson Decides

Landy Thompson, a 6-2, 170 pound point guard from Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, MD, has signed with Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD.
Spalding head coach Mike Glick said that the Mount was a perfect fit for Landy. "It was his favorite school, it's close to home, Coach Phelan is a great coach, he felt very comfortable there and he'll be able to play right away," Glick said.

Thompson had narrowed his list down to four schools: Mount St. Mary's, Morgan State, Missouri-Kansas City and Stony Brook. He also was recruited by Drake, Rice, Furman, Sacred Heart and Towson.
Thompson averaged 14.3 points, 3.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game as a senior. He was named to the First-Team All-Metro by the Baltimore Sun as he led 29-7 Spalding to the Baltimore Catholic League Championship. He was named the Baltimore Catholic League Most Valuable Player, was an All-County selection in Anne Arundel County and was a first-team MIAA selection.
Spalding, which features highly-regarded junior center Will Bowers, looked to Thompson as the team's go-to guy for a score or a play. Thompson can also handle the shooting guard position. He improved his three-point shot over his final prep season.
Landy is the younger brother of George Washington's freshman point guard T.J. Thompson who was named to this year's A10 All Rookie Team. First-year Laurinburg Institute (NC) coach Chris Chaney, who coached both Thompson brothers at the Newport School in Kensington, MD, had nothing but praise for Landy when we spoke at this year's St. James Invitational. "I would have loved to have a point guard like Landy on our team [Laurinburg] this season," Chaney said.
