Kudos To Providence For Jumping On McGrath

TEANECK, NEW JERSEY -- Give the Providence coaching staff some credit here. The Friars offered Donnie McGrath before other coaching staffs started to find out about this talented young man.
McGrath, a 6-2 1/2 combo guard from JFK High School in Somers, NY, had a terrific ABCD camp. He was selected to the ABCD senior all star game and he also had a good performance. McGrath scored eight points in the game.

But here are McGrath's ABCD stats: 12.0 points a game, 3.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, almost one steal per game. A solid camp for the future Providence Friar.
Some coaching sources told us that many schools wanted to now get involved with him, only to find out he was committed. McGrath wanted to play on a level such as the Big East Conference and the Providence staff realized it was a wise move to offer him.
Once the offer was made, McGrath took it and has been a happy player ever since. It would have been likely that McGrath would have seen several other schools try and jump in with him after his solid ABCD performance. Our sources told us that Stanford was one school that inquired.
Give the Providence staff credit. They worked McGrath early and gave up the only offer they had. It looks like the Friars' staff will be rewarded.
