Oregon State put together a very strong 2015 recruiting class, and the
Beavers are now on the board for 2016 after receiving a commitment from Ben Kone, a center from San Jose (Calif.) Archbishop Mitty.
"I would say it really boils down to a powerhouse coaching staff, and he just
feels like across the board, as a player and as a student and just as a person,
this is the right environment for him to grow," said Kone's mother, Kristy Kone.
"He just needs to put in the hard work and he'll be successful."
Kone made his decision while on campus at Oregon State.
Before deciding to pick the Beavers, California, San Diego State, Auburn,
New Mexico and New Mexico State had been
involved in his recruitment. According to his mother though, Kone has known for
a while where he wanted to go.
"I encouraged him to, once he knew where he wanted to go, wait about a month and
then commit. That's pretty much what we did. I think he knew about a month ago
that he was going to commit there. We came back up on this trip to commit to
Oregon State."
Head coach Wayne Tinkle and assistant coach Gregg Gottlieb
were important in securing Kone's commitment as well.
"We talked to Coach Gottlieb and Coach Tinkle the most. It's been terrific. It's
very natural with them."
Kone currently comes in as a three-star prospect on Rivals.com.
