Kingwood profile: Tyrone Shelley

Something is happening in San Diego. Big time players are coming out of the SoCal city left and right. Tyrone Shelley is next.
Jared Dudley was under-recruited before blowing up across the country at Boston College. In 2006, the city produced one of the best players in the nation Chase Budinger.

Shelley, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing from Crawford High School, is one of the best scorers in the class of 2007. Check his 74-point performance in high school this year. He's a very strong slasher with athleticism to spare and his perimeter game is ever improving. Shelley said he's simply putting in the work to become one of the best players in the nation.
"People don't realize on how hard we work down in San Diego. We get after it down there. It's not about the beach and surfing. We can play ball," Shelley said. "Jared started it. People slept on him before he went to B.C. Now look what he did. People aren't going to let that happen anymore."
Especially with Shelley. He is claiming offers from a number of schools and said he knows Iowa State and Minnesota are his "for sure ones."
Shelley said Illinois, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Cal, Texas, Minnesota and Iowa State have all been out to see him at his high school this spring. Shelley said he is in no rush to make an early decision but wants to find what everyone else is looking for.
"I want to play right away for a school that has a great coach and a winning tradition," he said.
