Kindred Reflects On Decision

Keion Kindred, a 6-4, 210 pound combination guard from Dominguez H.S. in Compton, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent with Texas El Paso.
Kindred has committed to UTEP back in the fall, but never signed with the Miners. He took spring trips to Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and Connecticut before signing with UTEP.

Houston, Oregon State, Providence and Seton Hall were among the other programs who took a look at Kindred this season.
"The reason I picked UTEP was due to loyalty," Kindred said. "UTEP was there for 10 or 11 months recruiting me ever since July."
"My mom wanted me to see what other options I would have," Kindred continued. "Once those options came, I decided that the program that stayed with me the longest and had shown the most loyalty would be the one I would pick."
Kindred enjoyed a banner senior campaign at Dominguez, averaging 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists per game for the Dons.
He recently played with the H-Squad program at the Houston Superstars' adidas sponsored tournament in Texas, where many coaches had a chance to catch him in action (it was an NCAA certified event).
By signing his letter of intent with UTEP this week, he gave the Miner coaches some much needed relief.
"It was a very tough process for them, because they thought they had me but I didn't sign," Kindred reflected. "Like I said before, I wanted better options, so that might have scared them, because they thought they weren't big enough."
"Then at the end of the year, those options do come, and all of these big-time schools call, and then they probably felt that they really didn't have a chance," he continued. "But it's not the name of the school that gets you where you want to be, it's what you do at that school."
