Keonte Kennedy selects Xavier

Xavier made its second splash in the 2018 class on Sunday thanks to the commitment of Westlake High guard Keonte Kennedy.

A 6-foot-4 scoring guard valued for his shot making abilities, Kennedy chose the Musketeers over a handful of power conference programs including Memphis, Arkansas and Michigan.

A native of Colorado that is now entering his second year in Austin, Texas, Kennedy flew under the radar this summer, though his physical makeup and shooting abilities could equate to a major breakout at the college level. Capable of being used on the ball in spurts but best in spot-up opportunities, Kennedy should be able to leave a quick mark on the Big East program.

After committing to Xavier during his official visit this weekend, Kennedy spoke further on his decision.

"I like the coaching staff, the players, the opportunity to play immediately and to make an impact," he said. "I just like to win, which is all that they really do."

Xavier is faced with replacing all-league performers Trevon Bluiett and JP Macura on the wing, so Kennedy is an addition that Chris Mack’s deeply needed heading into the fall. On the Nike EYBL circuit this summer, Kennedy knocked in close to 40 percent of his 3-point attempts and averaged nearly 11 points and four rebounds with the RM5 Elite unit.

The second commitment in Xavier's 2018 class, Kennedy joins local big man Jake Walter in creating a solid tandem as things inch closer to the early signing period next month. Xavier remains heavily in the mix for Rivals150 forward Jermaine Harris, four-star wing Talen Horton-Tucker and five-star lead guard Ayo Dosunmu.
