THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016
Since emerging onto the national scene at last year's Bob Gibbons Tournament, 2016 four-star forward Jonathan Isaac had experienced incremental growth in his recruitment until this spring, when his recruitment found a new gear.
Within the same hour Monday, the IMG Academy junior received offers from Louisville and Kentucky. When he called Rivals.com Isaac's head was still spinning and he was almost at a loss for words
"It's overwhelming," Isaac said.
Louisville assistant coach Mike Balado reached out to Isaac and made the Cardinals offer.
"I think Coach (Rick) Pitino is at a convention or something but Coach Balado called me," Isaac said. "In fact, he's texting me now. Today was my first time talking to him. He's excited about me and he thinks I can do great things if I keep working hard."
Kentucky's offer came less than three weeks after their first phone call with Isaac on April 30 after watching him in Lexington with his E1T1 Elite AAU team. Head coach John Calipari and an assistant made the call Monday night to offer the 6-foot-9, 185-pounder.
"They said that I'm a really good player and they think I'm a great kid, that I'd be a great fit at Kentucky and that they're really excited about me," said Isaac. "Coach Cal likes that I can handle the ball and shoot it. He said he liked my overall game."
In 12 games of the EYBL regular season, Isaac is averaging 14.9 points (on 49.6 percent shooting), 5.6 rebounds, and just under two steals per game while only committing 13 personal fouls.
Both programs expressed an interest in getting Isaac up to their respective campuses for visits in the near future which is a smart idea. Since the first live period, Isaac has picked up offers from Kansas State, Maryland, Texas Tech, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Florida, West Virginia and Texas.
