John Calipari and Kentucky have done it again, this time landing five-star big man E.J. Montgomery.
A 6-foot-10 senior at Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler who ranks No. 11 nationally, Montgomery had indicated recently that he may need until at least the end of April to make a decision. That timetable changed quickly with a Monday morning commitment to Kentucky after the Wildcats had been surging in his recruitment.
Montgomery visited during the season and told Rivals.com at the McDonald's All-American Game that the visit was a good one.
"It was a great visit. I like everything there," Montgomery said. "The coaching staff, the guys and everything that they have to offer."
Now that Montgomery is in the fold with the Wildcats, Calipari and his staff have put together another excellent recruiting class.
The addition of another five-star prospect to go along with five-star wing Keldon Johnson, five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley and top 35 wing Tyler Herro moves the Wildcats 2018 recruiting effort to No. 2 nationally.
A skilled big man, Montgomery can stretch defenses all the way to the three-point line. He has a big frame to build on, runs the floor well and has advanced significantly as a low-post rebounder and scorer over the past 12 months. Prior to committing to Kentucky, he had also considered Duke, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and others.
