Kaun Discusses Kansas Visit

Alexander "Sasha" Kaun, the 6-foot-11, 245-pound center from Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, FL., just returned from his official visit to Kansas. He spent the weekend touring the campus, spent time with the coaching staff and hung out with most of the current Jayhawk players. While no commitment was given, Kaun spoke highly of the entire weekend.
“My official visit to Kansas was great,” Kaun said. “I really liked it a lot and enjoyed spending time with the coaching staff and players, but I have nothing that I can compare this visit with.

"I'll take an official visit to Michigan State next weekend, so I’ll have a better idea of how the schools compare,” he added. “But my visit to Kansas was a lot of fun. It’s a nice area and the people are very nice.”
You might say the coaching staff pulled out the red carpet for the 27th best player in America. Coach Self invited Kaun and the entire team to his house for dinner on Friday night.
“Coach Self had us over for dinner on Friday night, which was really nice,” Kaun said. “The whole team was invited, so it was great spending time with all the guys. We ate out together on Saturday night.
“Coach Self and I also spent a little time together by ourselves,” he added. “We just talked about where they see me fitting in at Kansas. I was impressed with that conversation because other schools have talked about my coming in and not being a big part of the offense. Coach Self talked about how they would use me in the offense, how things would be run and how a lot of high-low sets would be called.”
Wayne Simien and Kaun spent a great deal of time together this weekend, as Simien was his host. The two big men hit it off from the very beginning.
“Wayne Simien was my host this weekend,” he said. “We talked a lot about Kansas basketball, but it wasn’t the only thing we talked about. Wayne and the rest of the team took us out on Saturday night and that went really well.
“A.J. Price was visiting with me,” he added. “I had seen him play several times this summer, so I was familiar with him. I talked with his father a lot during the visit and I enjoyed that. The team took A.J. and I out on Saturday night and we a great time."
Now that his official visit to Kansas is complete, Kaun will now focus on his final two visits. His visit to Michigan State will take place this coming weekend, but he will take a week off after that before leaving for Duke.
“I will take my final two visits to Michigan State and Duke, but Kansas is a school that I’m very interested in playing at,” he added. “I can see myself playing for Coach Self, but I’ll have a better idea once all of my visits are complete.
“I can also see myself playing with A.J. Price for four years,” he added. “He is a great player and it would be fun playing on the same team as him."
Rivals.com ranks Kaun No. 27 on the Rivals150 list and the fifth best center in the class of 2004.
