Kansas targets Mt. Zion wing

Kansas lost out on its top wing prospect when James Anderson chose Oklahoma State, but it looks like Jayhawks coach Bill Self has identified his next target - a little known prospect named Bennie Rhodes at Mt. Zion Academy in Durham, N.C.
"I talked to Coach Self for about an hour today, and he is extremely interested," said Mt. Zion Academy head coach Antonio Fozard. "He is coming here tomorrow. The Kansas staff has seen footage of him, and they know that he played well in a Pro-Am summer league in California, but they want to get a good look at him in person."

Although Rhodes - who made his way from Oakland, Calif., to Mt. Zion - reclassified as a junior, he actually has the credits and test score to graduate this year.
"His old school was willing to graduate him this year," said Fozard. "He has a 3.9 core GPA and a good enough test score. We will just have to see how Kansas wants to handle this."
Fozard compared Rhodes, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing player, to one of his former players at Mt. Zion - current Kansas standout Brandon Rush.
"He is athletic like Brandon. He can jump and consistently hit the mid-range jumper. He also runs well and defends.
"I don't think he is as good as Brandon, but he is a lot like him."
Oklahoma State and UCLA have also shown interest in Rhodes.
