Kansas juco combo guard picks Ohio

With much of the high school class of 2011 already picked over, many college programs have turned to the junior college ranks. After producing a high major commitment -- big man Robert Goff -- earlier in the week, Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College sent another to a quality mid major program on Wednesday when combo guard Joe Mitchell committed to John Groce and Ohio University.
A native of Wichita, Kan., Mitchell is a wiry and strong 6-foot-2 combo guard who specializes in scoring the basketball. He can attack off the dribble, is a fine athlete and can fill it up from deep when he gets into a zone.
As a freshman at Hutch, Mitchell averaged over 16 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Sources close to the situation indicated that available playing time and the work of assistant Jamal Walker were instrumental in the recruitment of Mitchell. Walker, played for Hutchinson head coach Steve Eck at Wichita South high school and was later an assistant under him at Redlands Community College in Oklahoma.
