COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kaden Magwood never felt so popular.
After posting 41 points in overtime to lead Oak Hill Academy past La Lumiere at the Marshall County Hoopfest last weekend, Magwood has picked up new interest from Miami, Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and Xavier.

“It’s been fun over the last week,” said Magwood, who scored seven points in Oak Hill’s 72-68 win over Canyon International on Thursday at The Bash. “Everyone was reposting me and all that stuff on social media. I can’t lie, that’s been a cool experience. My approach now though, is just to keep the momentum going and stay consistent. That’s what I’m working on. Like tonight, I have to play better and take care of the ball. I’m hard on myself because I want to be at my best at all times.”
Magwood doesn’t have crazy workout regimens like having to make thousands of shots before he allows himself to leave the gym, it’s more about making the types of shots that he would take in a game at a high percentage.
“That’s the key for me,” Magwood said. “I think that’s what helps me. I don’t practice things that I don’t do in games. I only shoot shots that I know I take. I don’t do random drills. It’s about making shots with me, and that’s what helps me.”
In his 41-point outburst, Magwood went 11 of 20 from the field, including 4-of-7 from the 3-point line and made 15-of-18 from the free-throw line.
This past summer, Magwood averaged 11 points a game with Team United playing in the Nike EYBL, but capped off the summer averaging nearly 20 points a game.
That focus and production earned him offers from Alabama, Illinois, Penn State, College of Charleston, Mississippi State, Western Kentucky, High Point, George Mason and Rhode Island, among others.
Magwood has already been on visits to Alabama, Illinois and Virginia Tech.
“I’m not in any rush with my recruitment at all,” Magwood said. “I’ve got some schools that want me to go ahead and commit, but I’m not ready to do that right now. I’m wide open and I’m just focused on winning and picking up more offers this season.”
