Often in the recruiting game, out of sight is out of mind. In the high pressure summer basketball scene, a month or more absence can set a player back tremendously in terms of recruiting interest. We caught up with 6-foot-3

Daye Kaba recently and found out how his trip back home to France affected his recruiting.
"Rhode Island and Old Dominion have offered scholarships," Kaba said. "I've also been hearing from Washington, Boston College, St. John's, and Georgia."
Kaba was red hot going into the summer, but as schools began to land other players, his list grew smaller and smaller. His visit to Paris in August also had an affect according to his coach Eric Jaklitsch.
"When he went home in August, everything was put on hold," Jaklitsch said. "Now we've got more schools jumping on the bandwagon. He played pretty well at ABCD Camp, so there's interest. We just haven't gotten a lot of offers because he was gone for so long."
Kaba averaged 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists for Our Savior New American last season, his first in the USA. The Paris native has adjusted well, and speaks fluid english. He's already earned a qualifying score on the SAT, and is a solid student.
On the court Kaba is a classic combo-guard. He has the size to play the 2G at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, but the ball handling skills to swing to the point from time to time. He's a good athlete, with excellent ability to attack the basket off the dribble. He needs to improve his off hand and work on his decision making to be a full time point guard, and his shooting is streaky, though improving.
Kaba and Jaklitsch differ on the timeline for a decision with Jaklitsch saying there's a good chance he'll sign in the fall and Kaba indicating a preference towards signing in the spring.
This winter Kaba will have plenty of opportunies to prove himself, as Our Savior plays a brutal 40 game schedule, including games at the National Prep School Invitational, the Great Florida Shootout, the Dell Curry Shootout, Flying to the Hoop, the Primetime Shootout, Lone Star Invitational, the Bull City Classic, and the Champions Classic.
