Justin Johnson His Decision

Justin Johnson, a mobile and developing 6-8, 210 pound power forward from Merrillville H.S. in Merrillville, Ind., has committed to Kansas State.
Johnson visited K-State for the Wildcats' football game against Colorado this past weekend, as his trip lasted from Oct. 6-8.

Johnson had planned trips to Marshall and Southern Illinois this fall, but canceled both after giving the nod to Kansas State.
In addition to the above three schools, Johnson said he had been offered scholarships by Southwest Missouri State, Penn State and Weber State. UConn and West Virginia had contacted him via phone, but neither had offered as of this month.
"The coach and the situation I will be going into were the biggest factors," Johnson said. "I will be able to play as a freshman, and the way they have the academics set up is really great for me, since it should help me to get a handle on my classes. I liked the players, and it's real nice out there, everything is being renovated or is new."
Johnson first came to the attention of the Insiders Report in the summer of 2000 at the AAU Nationals in Florida, where he played with the SYF Players. He then switched teams this past year and played with perennial Nike power Bloomington Red.
Johnson showed flashes of being a high major prospect at several events along the spring and summer trail, although he was never able to string together a number of strong performances. Of course, playing on the front line alongside Chris Hunter (Michigan) and Sean May (undecided) probably limited his touches somewhat.
On the plus side, Johnson has an excellent frame with which to add more size, and is very mobile and athletic. He is more of a run/jump athlete who is better at reacting on the offensive glass than with his back to the basket.
Last year at Merrillville, Johnson averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game.
Johnson said he expects to sign with Kansas State during the early signing period in November.
