Junior forward causing a stir in Michigan

Tucked about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids on the Eastern shore of Lake Michigan, Muskegon has become a destination for college coaches. The reason, junior big man Deyonta Davis.
A 6-foot-9 power forward at Muskegon (Mich.) High, the three-star Davis isn't yet a big name in the recruiting world. But, his name is ringing out with high major coaches and he appears primed for a breakout season.

Now in his second year as the coach at Muskegon, Keith Guy says that Davis is starting to figure it all out.
"He was entering his sophomore year when I took over the job and he was playing basically because he was tall," Guy told Rivals.com. "They had him playing freshman basketball the year before and I moved him up to varsity because the potential he had was off the charts. He's playing now because he knows he can be good and he's starting to realize it."
With a 7-foot-1 wingspan to go along with his 6-foot-9 frame and plus athleticism, Davis has all of the measurables and physical tools. His game is well rounded as well.
"He's a stretch four," said Guy. "He is a shot blocker and his jump shot comes off his hand really nice. He has some back to the basket moves but he could get better at that. His ball handling isn't bad but I would like to see him improve that a little."
Programs that have been in and offered this fall are Michigan State, Missouri, Memphis, UNLV, Detroit, Iowa State and Butler. Xavier's Chris Mack will be in this week and Indiana is expected soon while Louisville and Florida have called to express interest.
Davis likes the attention, but is focused on the gym right now.
"He's working out with a trainer getting his weight up and lifting and stuff like that," said Guy. "He also wants to stay in the gym. He's the kind of kid who when it's time to go home he's asking to stay a little longer and get a few more shots up on the gun."
Last weekend, Davis was in Memphis to check out their season opening festivities and his coach reported that he had a blast. He'll be at Michigan State for a second trip this fall the first weekend of November, will hit Iowa State in the middle of the month and is working to set up an unofficial visit to Missouri.
At this point, Guy says that Davis has no favorites or timetable for making a decision. However, Guy is confident that Davis will back up the hype during his junior season and next spring on the travel circuit with ACB Hoops.
"I don't believe in overhyping a guy," said Guy. "If he's not good I'm going to say he's not good and leave it at that. But this kid, he can be special."
