Junior Center Darryl Watkins Has Top Two

Darryl Watkins, an outstanding 6-11, 220-pound junior center from Paterson Catholic High School in New Jersey, told us he plans on taking his time in his recruiting process.
"I would like to stay close to home but it won't be the deciding factor," Watkins said. "I am still open. It's early right now so I am not narrowing it down."

Despite Watkins stating he wasn't narrowing it down, he indicated to us he is looking at two top schools -- Syracuse and Seton Hall. Other schools under consideration are North Carolina, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Villanova, Virginia, and St. John's.
"I like Seton Hall and Syracuse because they are in the Big East," Watkins said. "They have good programs and are close to home."
Watkins, who averaged 13 points and nine rebounds last season, is one of the better big men available in the class of 2003. "I have been working on my low post moves the past year," Watkins said. "I also want to improve my jumper, my shooting, my perimeter game."
Watkins will again appear at the ABCD camp in July and play for Jimmy Salmon's T5T Playaz AAU program during the spring and summer months. Watkins said if he gets the chance to take some visits during the spring he will do so.
