Talented point guards are always in demand for the spring signing period, which should greatly benefit New Hampton (N.H.) Prep senior Travis Jorgenson.

Rivals.com ranks the 6-foot, 162-pound floor general No. 138 overall in the country and No. 31 point guard in the class of 2013. Recruiting is going well, and several new schools are starting to enter the picture.

"I've taken an official visit to Boston College and I really enjoyed that," Jorgenson said. "I've been on Creighton's campus twice, and I got to see them play Tulsa. I'm really close with that staff. I'm also going to visit Georgia Tech [this weekend]."

Jorgenson committed to in-state Missouri on Sept. 1, 2011, and then decommitted Oct. 26, 2012, and will have a different approach the second time around.

"I'm going to be taking my time," Jorgenson said. "I rushed my first decision. Make sure I'm picking the right school. Some of the things that are important to me is where I can fit into that school. Whether they just need a point guard or somewhere I can come in and contribute.

"I also want to be close to the coaches. I'd be open, but those are things that are important to me."

New Hampton coach Pete Hutchins is teaching Jorgenson how to be a coach on the floor, and expects his phone to keep ringing from college coaches.

"I believe his teammates have a lot of faith in him," Hutchins said. "He plays so hard and leads by example. Just the effort he puts forth, everybody in the gym can see it and appreciated by everybody. I'm pretty hard on him and I wish he could be more vocal. He's always in the right place and just doing the best job he can.

"Georgia Tech, Creighton and Boston College, are probably the schools recruiting him the hardest. UNC-Greensboro is a program we have a connection with that I'm sure would love to have him. Tulane and Michigan State just called [Dec. 28]."

The Columbia, Mo., native is also getting an education on living away from home while at New Hampton (N.H.) Prep.

"It's a learning experience, and I've definitely had to grow up a lot and mature," Jorgenson said. "The competition out here is good. I'm always trying to get better and always trying to challenge myself."

New Hampton went 2-1 and finished as the runner-up at the recent Holiday Invitational at Raleigh (N.C.) Broughton High on Dec. 26-29. Jorgenson faced three of the top private schools in the state --Wilson Greenfield School, High Point Christian and Raleigh Word of God.

The latter won the title game 58-53 on Dec. 29, despite 10 points and a pair of 3-pointers from Jorgenson, who averaged 10.7 points for the tournament.

Jorgenson knows the importance of making a good first impression with his game.

"I'm just somebody that tries to play hard every night," Jorgenson said. "Even if my shot isn't falling, I'm trying to be a good point guard. I'm just trying to play hard and win."

Jorgenson has plenty of options to pass too, including Indiana-bound power forward Noah Vonleh, who Rivals.com ranks No. 7 in the class of 2013, junior three-point shooter Mike LeBlanc, slashing senior wing Lincoln Davis and athletic junior power forward Tory Miller.

"It's awesome," he said. "I have a lot of shooters like Mike LeBlanc, Cole McConnell and Dustin Triano. They are great shooters, knock down off the dribble [types].

"Noah Vonleh, everyone knows he's great and top 10 in the country. He's a stud and a great big man. Everyone just works hard and everyone plays together. It's a lot of fun."
