Johnson Still Committed

Greg Johnson, a versatile 6-8, 210 pound small forward who last played at Southern Union State C.C. in Wadley, Ala., remains firmly committed to Ole Miss.
JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com caught up with Southern Union Head Coach Ron Radford recently, and he told us that Johnson is enrolled at Chattahoochee Valley C.C. in Phenix City, Ala., in an effort to complete his associates degree requirements.

However, there are some questions concerning the validity of Johnson's letter of intent with Mississippi. The SEC has a rule that a student athlete must spend three consecutive full-time semesters at a junior college in order to be eligible at a member institution.
Johnson spent a year and a half at Southern Union before failing out of school. He enrolled at Chattahoochee Valley last summer, and Radford said that he should graduate in May.
However, only the spring and fall semesters count as full-time semesters, meaning that his summer semester won't count toward the three semester requirement.
Earlier this year, JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops reported on a similar situation with Okaloosa-Walton C.C. forward Kei Madison, who signed with Mississippi State in the fall. Madison has since been dismissed from the school.
Radford said he speaks with Johnson on a consistent basis.
"Unless the SEC rules against him, he will be at Ole Miss next year," the coach said.
Radford did mention that Cincinnati and Southern Miss would be interested in Johnson should he be unable to attend Mississippi in the fall.
As a sophomore at Southern Union, Johnson had initially committed to Auburn. But after encountering academic troubles at the school, he resurfaced at Chattahoochee Valley and subsequently reopened his recruitment.
As a freshman at Southern Union in 1999-2000, Johnson averaged 13 points per game. He was regarded among the top junior college prospects in the Class of 2001 before academics got in the way of things.
We'll keep you posted in the coming months on his situation, so stay tuned!
