Johnson claims four big time offers

The No. 28 ranked player in the class of 2007 Gary Johnson is a workhorse down low for the Houston Hoops AAU club. Johnson, 6-foot-7, 210-pounds out of Aldine High School in Houston, Texas, is still primarily a power post player although he is working on developing his small forward skills. Despite his struggle to develop into more of a perimeter player, Johnson boasts offers from four of the nation's top programs.
"I'm open to everyone," said Johnson. "I do have offers, though, from Kentucky, Kansas, Texas and Arizona. I also like North Carolina, Connecticut and Duke, but I haven't heard from Duke yet."

Scoring baskets inside has become more difficult for Johnson as he is playing against older a bigger opponents around the basket. Although he has long arms, Johnson is not an explosive athlete. At the Kingwood Classic most of his buckets came off crafty post moves where he used his body and the rim to shield off defenders and from working the offensive boards. He spent the vast majority of his time within 10-feet of the basket.
For Johnson to remain an elite prospect, he must develop his face up skills.
"In college I will probably be a three/four," he said. "I need to work on my small forward skills. I need to get better at my shooting, ball handling and perimeter defense."
