Johns Has List Of Three

Garfield Johns, a 6'2'' 170 lb combo guard from Wings Academy in The Bronx, is a hidden gems that hasn't got much recognition out of New York City. Johns is a sleeper who deserves more exposure.
Johns, who competes with The Bronx-based Willie Howie All-Stars and Coach Will Negron and moonlights with Riverside Church, has received interest from LIU, Albany, and Fairfield, but the NEC school seems to be his only moderately serious suitor.

Johns is a lefty who wields a sweet stroke from the outside. He is not especially quick and doesn't possess great lateral quickness, but he is crafty with the ball and in the paint. An able slasher, Johns matched up favorably on the offensive end recently with The Gauchos' Marlon Smith. Johns used his height advantage to see over his defender and get his shot off.
Johns looks like he has the type of frame that will let him fill out a bit. While "Ricky" hasn't gotten much exposure, he has the look of at least a low to mid level Division I player.
Johns led Wings Academy and coach Lance Tejada(now at Monroe CC in The Bronx) to the PSAL "B" Championship this fall without much fanfare. He averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, and four assists during his team's title run.
Johns will attend the Five Star Honesdale Camp during the last week of August, as well as The Connecticut Select Tournament at Sacred Heart University in September.
Ricky carries a 2.5 GPA in the classroom by his estimate. He has not yet attained a qualifying SAT score, but said that he scored 870 on a PSAT attempt. He plans on taking the test again this fall, more than once if necessary.
