Curtis Jerrells, the No. 66 player in the Rivals100 for the class of 2005, has decided where he will play college basketball. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound point guard out of Del Valle High School in Austin, Texas could be the beginning of a string of top recruits headed to Baylor to play for Coach Scott Drew.

"C.J. committed to Baylor Thursday and word is just getting out today,” said Jerrells’ AAU coach Roderick Burns of the ATX Boys. “He’s very excited. They’ve been recruiting him since December. They told him they wanted him to come in and be a part of the program they are building. He visited there twice... and he liked it a lot. He just thought it would be the right place for him.”
Jerrells may have the opportunity to run the point for two other highly ranked underclassmen.
Despite the fact that the No. 22 player in the Rivals100 for the class of 2005, Rashad Woods and Chris Roquemore, the No. 26 player in the Rivals50 for the class of 2006, backed out of one time commitments to Baylor, there is still a good chance the Bears will land them in the end.
Coach Burns feels that Jerrells may turn into a player that other high majors will wish they had landed.
“I think he’s one of the best kept secretes out there,” he said. “I’ve been telling people for three years that he’s one of the top five players in Texas in his class. I think he’s gone a little unnoticed because we are not one of the bigger AAU programs.”
Along with possessing all the essentials of a great point guard, Jerrells also has the ability to take the game into his own hands with his scoring prowess.
“He’s one of the special ones” said Coach Burns. “He has the ability to take games over. I’ve never seen anybody else stop him when he puts his mind to scoring. Last year at the Kingwood Classic he scored 39 points on the Dallas Mustangs. I don’t know too many people who have done that.”
