Jaime Jaquez drawing plenty of interest after strong junior year

Jaime Jaquez
Jaime Jaquez (USA Basketball)

It’s safe to say Jaimie Jaquez’s season went pretty well. The 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward set a school record this season as a junior Camarillo (Calif.) High as he averaged 31 points per game along with 13 rebounds per game before his team was knocked out of the postseason.

Jaquez, the No. 106-ranked prospect in the 2019 Rivals150, has a list of schools recruiting that includes Stanford, USC, Georgetown, St. John’s, UCLA, Oregon State, Utah and UCSB. He’s been on campus to each of the California schools involved with him right now, as well as St. John’s.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Jaquez shared which schools are recruiting him hardest and his thoughts on the schools recruiting him.

“The schools hitting me up the hardest are Stanford and USC.”

USC: “I think they are running a pretty good program so far. I haven’t seen a bunch of college basketball this year, so I haven’t seen a lot of them, but their coaches always check in on me to see how I’m doing.”

Stanford: “I think they run a really good program. They have a beautiful campus. I like their coaching staff and I like what they have going on there.”

UCLA: “They have a beautiful campus there, too. They have a good program, a good coaching staff and they have a lot of good seniors on their team with a good point guard.”

St. John’s: “That was a good visit. I didn’t get to meet the coach because it was a random visit, but I got to meet some of the coaches and players and got to see the campus. It’s a smaller campus, but they showed me videos of how they pack the gym. It was good to see a different kind of campus than we have here on the West Coast.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Jaquez admitted that Pac-12 rivals Stanford and USC are the schools coming the hardest, which means there is probably a good chance those schools are the ones with an early edge for his commitment. However, Jaquez was very clear that he’s still open to any school that begins recruiting him in the next few months. St. John’s is another school which definitely made an impact on the California native during his trip to the Big Apple. Look for a fall decision for Jaquez.
