J.R.: Will Take Visits

Despite a previous feeling about making a commitment to North Carolina if the Tar Heels offered, J.R. Smith will take some official visits before making a decision. "All the schools have offered. I just want to see some other schools," said Smith, 6-5 from St. Benedict's High School in New Jersey.
Smith added: "I am interested in North Carolina, North Carolina State, UCONN, Pittsburgh and UCLA. I want to visit UNC, NC State, UCONN, and Pittsburgh before I decide."

Smith, who previously mentioned interest in Kansas, said the Jayhawks were not part of his recruiting process anymore. Smith, who had a solid summer playing for Jimmy Salmon's Playaz program, has the ability to go over bigger bodies in traffic and dunk it home. He also has the perimeter skills to keep a defender honest. Once Smith improves his handle, he is likely to be a major impact player on the college level.
"North Carolina still leads," Smith said. "They understand that I want to take some time before I decide and also want to see some other schools."
Smith was unsure when he might take visits. "I still have to sit down with my high school coach and talk about that," Smith said. "Once coach (Hurley) gets back from camp I can talk to him about it."
When asked if he was close to a decision right now, Smith said: "No. I just want to take some more time."
