Ivy League For Georgia Big Man

Dane Williams, a long and athletic 6'9'' 205 pound big forward/center from Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia, has verbally committed to Cornell.
This is a very solid get for the Ivy League program. Williams chose Cornell over scholarship offers from Furman and South Carolina State, as well as interest from Wofford and Brown.

"I considered some other schools, but once Cornell expressed interest and I spoke with the coaching staff, I pretty much had my mind made up," said Williams.
Dane competed with The Atlanta Celtics at The Las Vegas Big Time Tournament. His regular AAU team is the Columbus Blazers. Williams participated in the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in the spring with the Blazers, as well as The Charlie Weber Tournament at the University of Maryland this fall.
Obviously, the top-notch academics played a big role in Williams' decision.
"One of the biggest reasons is that it's an Ivy League institution," said Williams. "And it will help put me in a good position when I get out of college."
The Big Red's young and enthusiastic coaching staff also figured into the equation.
"The coaching staff came down here to watch me numerous times in open gyms," said Williams. "They're a young staff, really ready to get after it, and I got along well with them."
Williams gives Cornell plenty of extra size to work with in a front court that already includes capable post Chris Vandeberg, a 6'10'' Canadian. The Big Red added some talented wings in the last class, and the addition of Williams bolsters their stable of big men.
