Irick Shows Some Super Stuff At Showcase

Willie Irick has that wide frame that allows him to be a very effective player in the low post. He was one of the reasons why Riverside Church won all of its pool games here at the Super Showcase in Orlando, Florida.
But with freshman sensation Derek Caracter aboard last night, this limited the playing time for Irick, who did have a very good Super Showcase.

Many had labeled him as just an athlete. But over the past month, Willie has proven he is more than just an athlete -- he is also progressing in the skill department. He has shown he can go outside and drop in the jumper. "This is what I have to prove," Irick said. "But it's hard to prove it in AAU ball when inside is where I have to be."
Irick isn't complaining. But he brings up a valuable point. He does need to progress in the skill department if he wishes to go to a high level.
Irick previously told us he had interest from some major schools -- DePaul, Connecticut, and Washington. Last night, Irick told us he is still interested in DePaul, Kent State, Hofstra, Central Connecticut State, Connecticut, and Washington.
Irick averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks this past season for Teaneck.
Irick carries a 2.4 scholastic GPA. He will take the SAT for the first time in October. Irick did tell us he may reclassify to a junior this season as well. This would make him a member of the 2004 class.
