Iowa State lands four-star Zion Griffin

Iowa State is on the board with a four-star prospect in the class of 2018.

Monday night, 6-foot-5 wing Zion Griffin committed to Steve Prohm and the Cyclones.

A relative unknown headed into the summer, Griffin used a huge month of July to blossom into a high major prospect. Prohm caught Griffin's breakout performance at the Hardwood Classic in Lawrence, Kansas and took things from there.

"He (Prohm) told me from the beginning that he wanted me on his team and he showed me that over the past few months," Griffin told Rivals.com. "The official visit put the icing on the cake."

A beastly athlete, Griffin already has the body of a college sophomore or junior. He loves to slash to the rim but is also a more than capable outside shooter. Because of his strength and ferocity in the lane, he'll also be able to be used as a small ball four man and may remind Cyclone fans of former star Deonte Burton.

"Versatile, a playmaker and athletic," said Griffin when asked to describe his game. "I have good vision of what coach could make me into the next few years."

Griffin is the first member of what the Cyclones hope to be a strong 2018 recruiting class. They are in very good shape with four-star point guard Tyler Harris, are in solid position with four-star guard Talen Horton-Tucker and have made the final three for promising three-star big man George Conditt among others.
