Iowa Commit Thompsons Mobile Leaper
Alex Thompson, a 6-foot-8 combo/power forward from Ames H.S. in Ames, Ia., gave an oral commitment to Iowa earlier this spring.
RivalsHoops.com caught Thompson in action this past weekend at the Spiece Run N Slam Tournament in Ft. Wayne, Ind. We were fortunate to watch Thompson in action on Saturday morning at Spiece, because he suffered an injury in that game and didn't play the rest of the event.

Blessed with long arms and good mobility, Thompson has very good athletic pop. Thanks to his quick leaping ability, Thompson has the ability to finish plays in transition and on the offensive glass.
Thompson also brandished some ball skills, and showed that he can be an alert passer from the high post or low post. He uses both hands around the basket and can step out and hit the midrange jumper.
The biggest thing that Thompson will need to develop when he gets to the Big 10 Conference will be upper body strength. He will need to get a lot stronger to battle in the paint with other forwards.
Thompson will attend the Nike All-American Camp in July, and then tour the Nike and AAU circuit with Martin Brothers. We'll keep you posted on his play as the summer evaluation period unfolds, so stay tuned.
