Iona Lands Two Local Stars

Iona College received signed National Letters of Intent from 6-0, 165 pound point guard Marvin McCullough and 6-7, 240 power forward Kiril Wachsmann. Both players star for All Hallows High School in the Bronx, currently ranked No. 8 nationally on the USA Today Super 25 Boys Team Rankings. They signed their National Letters of Intent late Wednesday night.
"Marvin and Kiril are outstanding student-athletes and most importantly, they're great people," said Gaels Head Coach Jeff Ruland. "They play for a superb program, coached by an Iona alum John Carey, and they're gunning for the New York state championship this season. Marvin and Kiril are both young, they're extremely talented, and they have amazing upside and potential as basketball players."

Both players visited Iona for Midnight Madness weekend, along with All Hallows teammate Ricky Soliver and Suffield (CT) Academy swingman Jeff Viggiano.
McCullough, who picked the local school over Philadelphia's Drexel, averaged 11.3 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.0 steals last season in helping lead the Gaels to the 2001 CHSAA NY Archdiocese Championship. He earned a spot on the 2001 New York Daily News/CHSAA All Star First Team. He also had been recruited by Yale, Rhode Island and Quinnipiac.
Wachsmann, who was down to Iona and Marist, averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and one blocked shot per contest last season. He also was recruited by Princeton, Yale, George Mason, and Rider.
Both players also have good academic marks. McCullough scored 1010 and Wachsmann 1140 the first time each took the SAT.
