(Al.) power forward Garrison Brooks is one of the more intriguing post players in the Southeast in the Class of 2017.
At 6-foot-9 with great length and athleticism, he possesses a very high ceiling as a basketball player.
Schools began to take notice of his abilities during the most recent travel season. Coaches from UAB, Georgia and Vanderbilt have already been by his school to see him, while other schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Missouri, Florida State, Wake Forest and LSU have been involved in his recruitment.
Most recently, the four-star prospect made the trip over to Athens, Georgia, to check out Mark Fox's program.
"I really liked it," Brooks said. "We toured the campus a little bit. I talked to Coach Fox a little bit. We went around the academic center. We went to the football game too. Coach Fox talked about the success they have had with player development and his graduation rate. He also talked about how he'll help you after basketball. He'll help you get a job even if basketball doesn't work out."
Vanderbilt has also been working hard to keep Brooks interested in the Commodores.
"They are pretty good," Brooks said. "They are going to have a lot of success this year. I talk to Coach Adam Cohen up there. I have to get to know him better."
UAB made a lot of noise in March after upsetting Iowa State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Brooks thinks they will be back again this year.
"They are a really good up and coming program," he said. "I think they are going to win the conference again. I think they are probably the best team in Alabama. I talk to Coach Haase and Coach Ehsan a lot. They are big on player development and skill work."
With Brooks, many will speculate that he will ultimately end up at Mississippi State because his father, George Brooks, is an assistant coach there. Others will predict he will stay home and play at Auburn because of the proximity. Those probably aren't wise assumptions to be made in regards to his decision.
"That's way far off," Brooks said.
He doesn't however rule out the possibility of playing for his father at Mississippi State.
"It would be nice to play for him, but you never know. I might end up going somewhere else," Brooks said.
Brooks sees himself being on a school's commitment list by this time next year.
"I'll probably commit before my senior year starts," he said. "I'm looking for winning program where I can get a good education and have fun in college."
The Alabama native isn't specifically naming favorites, but he likes the way certain schools are recruiting him more at the moment.
"They are all pretty much the same, but I like the way some are recruiting me harder," he said. "Those are the ones that have come to see me already."
