Interest builds in Isaac

Jonathan Isaac began his ascent from little-known prospect to the national spotlight at the 2014 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. This year, the 6-foot-8 junior will play for Florida-based E1T1 Elite in the Nike EYBL and hopes to attract even more attention from high-major college coaches.
Isaac has only attended one E1T1 workout, but was very encouraged, especially since he was familiar with a few of the players.
"It went well, I knew Blake Morrow and I've played against point guard Marcus Dodson in AAU last year," said Isaac, who is ranked No. 49 in the class of 2016. "I talked to Tony Bradley. He hit me up a couple of times and asked me if I was going to play with E1T1, so I know him from Twitter. He wasn't at the workout because he was visiting a school. I don't really know all of the other players that well yet. I just know them from that one workout."
A different AAU program isn't the only change for Isaac. The four-star small forward is in the process of finishing up at the International School of Broward (ISB) and will transfer to a yet-to-be determined school. These changes have had some impact on the communication between college coaches and Isaac, since his former Florida United travel/ISB coach Johnny Flemming had been the initial point of contact. Now that contact person is someone closer to Isaac.
"My mom. She's listening to what they have to say and then she comes to me to talk about it," Isaac said. "It's new to her because Coach Johnny was the one that handled everything, so she hardly talked to college coaches before. But now they're starting to call her."
Isaac is hearing from Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Florida State, Virginia Tech, USF and others.
Part of the reason Isaac flew under the radar for so long was the result of missing half of the 2013-2014 season with a broken arm. This season, the lanky forward improved on the court and showed between-the-ears toughness by refusing to let an early season finger injury sideline him and ultimately led his ISB high school team to the regional quarterfinals.
"A lot of my improvement this season was mental," Isaac said. "I had to assume a different role, being the man when my team needed me. So it was a mental toughness year. I also got stronger from being in the gym every day, my ball-handling and my shot got better. Everything got better."
Though slight of build at 6-foot-8, 190 pounds, Isaac is very skilled and athletic. A true wing, he can score at all three levels, finish through contact and has deep range on his jump shot. If his shot isn't falling, Isaac can put it on the deck and get to the rim, score with a floater or pass to an open teammate when the help defender arrives.
Content not to rush his recruitment, Isaac has only taken unofficial visits to Florida State and South Florida. He has already taken the ACT, but doesn't plan any official visits until after the summer, when his offer list is expected to be well into double digits.
