Injury Overshadows Fork Union Win

It seemed like such an innocent play. Winchendon 6-foot-3 guard Robert McKiver was driving to the basket and appeared to come down wrong on his right ankle. What wasn't realized at first was how severe the injury was with 11:47 left in the game against Fork Union at the War at the Shore in Milford, Delaware.
But as McKiver laid in pain along the baseline behind the Winchendon basket, he held up his right foot which was facing at an angle where his left foot was. There was a 30-minute delay allowing an ambulance to take McKiver and his mom to the hospital. No word yet on how McKiver is doing.

McKiver shouted out some words of encouragement to the Winchendon team as he left on a stretcher. But the injury appeared to affect his team. Akeem Hemingway scored 23 points and unsigned 2004 recruit J.R. Hairston added 18 points to lift Fork Union to a 76-69 win over Winchendon. Hairston also had 10 rebounds.
Hairston, who has already taken a visit to Auburn, is a smooth-shooting guard/forward who has a solid medium range game. Ohio State recruit Jeryml Jackson-Wilson also made a contribution in the win by scoring 10 points.
Winchendon, which led 35-32 at the half, was led by Stuard Baldonado's 14 points and Jesus Verdejo's (former Temple signee) 13 points. McKiver had 10 points before the injury.
