North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland usually has one of the better teams in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and generally have a player for college coaches to get excited about. In the 2017 class, point C.J. Roberts is the target of schools all over the country.

The four-star prospect is averaging 24 points, five assists and three rebounds per game as a junior. He’s already reeled in offers from SMU, Baylor, Miami, Virginia Tech, TCU, Kansas State, Alabama, USC and Houston along with interest from many more.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Roberts has been on campus at Baylor, Texas, SMU and TCU. He told us what stands out about each program.

Baylor: “Baylor coaches, out of all the coaching staff, they probably have the most hype staff along with Texas. They are all full of energy and always moving around.”

Texas: “Coach (Shaka) Smart is a great. I went to their practice and I really liked it because it was really intense. Everybody competed really hard.”

SMU: “They have a great coach. All the players really buy into what he’s saying and just love coach (Larry) Brown. That’s a pretty good program.”

TCU: “I like them a lot too with coach Trent (Johnson). They just got one of my friends there, Josh Parrish. He’s been talking to me all about TCU.”

Being close to home doesn’t necessarily hurt SMU and TCU’s chances.

“I’d be close to my family and I could see everybody and I wouldn’t be home sick. I don’t think I’d be home sick if I went away, but the fact I have a great relationship with the coaching staffs and they have a great relationship with my parents, it would be nice.”

Miami is another school heavily with Robert and they have a connection.

“One of my closest friends, Sheldon McClellan, he tells me it’s pretty nice. He keeps me updated on everything their doing because he’s been with most of my life and I know he wouldn’t steer me in the wrong direction.”

WHAT'S NEXT

Roberts plans to visit Alabama and Miami in the near future and could be on campus again at the Texas schools. He does not appear to be close to a decision at this point and said it likely won’t come until his senior year.

RIVALS' REACTION

SMU and TCU seem to have caught his attention early in the process, and he seems very open to the idea of going to school where his family and friends could watch him play every night. Baylor also isn’t too far away and their coaching staff has made an impression on him as well.
